Austin Seaholm District lies within the urban area of Downtown Austin where residential and commercial buildings rise, growing restaurants and shops, and new developments await people to experience the best of what Austin can offer. Seaholm District is named after Downtown Austin's power plant which was closed indefinitely since the '90s yet its facade with its lightning bolt logo became a well-known icon around Austin. During the 1950s the first phase was constructed. It showcased a mid-century, art deco style which makes it iconic up to this day. As plans of redeveloping the plant started, it was agreed upon along with one of the main tenets, that parts of the plant will remain tact to maintains its historical significance.
The tallest building, The Independent, is located within the Seaholm District. The residential skyscraper stands 58 stories tall and brings 370 condo units to downtown Austin. Aside from the Independent, Seaholm District will be home to Under Armour, Google, Athenahealth, and the Central Library.
What once was an abandoned power plant is today's treasure in Downtown Austin. Seaholm District has completely transformed bringing in residential buildings, office spaces, amenities, activities, stores, and restaurants for everyone to enjoy. For some delicious coffee to fuel up your morning and afternoon, Merit Coffee is one of the local favorites in the area. The California-based grocery chain, Trader Joe's, the ultimate crowd favorite, is located across True Food Kitchen where you can shop and stock fresh and affordable groceries for your home.
One of the main attractions in Seaholm District is The Central Library. Usually filled during the weekends by students and professionals, The Central Library is admired by everyone that visits due to its modern furniture and grand staircase. Reading rooms, work stations, an amphitheater, and a tech petting zoo for kids to enjoy is some of the highlights when you visit. The Central Library overlooks the gorgeous view of Lady Bird Lake which makes it truly relaxing experience as you read or work.
For more fun and attractions, in less than 10 minutes drive time, you will be able to reach South Austin. Check out the hotspots at 78704 such as the loved Zilker Park, Barton Springs Pool, and the Barton Creek Greenbelt for more hiking, biking, and rock climbing adventures.
Seaholm District is home to high-rise residences and Seaholm District apartments. The Independent which was completed in 2019, stands 58 stories tall with over 370 new units is named Austin's tallest residential tower with rooms that consist of one to four bedrooms that are priced from $300,00 to over more the $3 million.
