About Judges Hill

Judges Hill is one of Austin's oldest neighborhoods, established in 1851 as the city's original residential community just outside the initial downtown survey laid out by Edwin Waller in 1839. Located at the northwest corner of downtown Austin's original city boundary, the area sits between Lamar Boulevard, West Avenue, 15th Street, and MLK Boulevard.

The neighborhood earned its name from the many judges and lawyers who lived there since Austin's founding. Today it remains the last primarily residential neighborhood in downtown Austin, with a mix of historic homes, some dating to shortly after Texas statehood, alongside mid century and early 20th century architecture. Its downtown adjacent location puts residents within walking distance of Congress Avenue and Rainey Street's dining and entertainment scene.
