As it was projected back in 2013, Austin has been skyrocketing in the race for one the most attractive cities in the continental United States for 2015. Having had a 12 percent increase in a period of just 3 years, this southern jewel is taking home the big bucks-according to the census figures for the year. For the duration of the 2013 fiscal year, Austin's population shot up 2.9 percent in 12 months. It is completely safe to say that no other city came even relatively close to the amount of expansion this city has been experiencing; Denver is the closest runner up, with 2.4 percent. Looks like breakfast tacos and an ice cold Shiner are the up and coming staples of the South, so if you've never had the pleasure of this Texan experience, you might just be missing out on what even southern dames are referring to as "Heaven in two hands".

Three quick takeaways after the graph:

We will forever be infatuated with the sun

As we all know, there is nothing like a good hill country summer-if you don't know, I'll say it again, there is nothing in this country like a Texas hill country summer. Sure we can include some of the other cities in the south west regions of the country that are the most densely populated; the cities on this list are in states like Texas, California, North Carolina, Florida, and Colorado. Sure, there are some exceptions to these high statistics-maybe in Washington D.C or another North Eastern city, but the South West waters and tropical feel, will always draw a crowd, especially with the bait of some of the cheapest housing in the country.

The fastest growing city in the US is actually the fastest growing suburb

Austin is a beautiful town surrounded by Central Texas springs and nature. Filled with high-rises and old town feel homes, trendy restaurants and bars on every corner of the city, there is something for each kind of person; Artists, Techies, Musicians, Entrepreneurs, and home bodies. Like many of the cities at the top of the list, much of the city feels like a good ol' suburb. As many of the places topping the growth charts, much of it just feels like a large collection of suburbs. Trulia economist Jed Kolko states that based on neighborhood density, some of the fastest growing cities in the country are not actually urban growth; but are composed of suburban developments. These attributes are what make Austin probably the most phenomenal city of the South

Outer regions growing taking over

When you think about the magic that comes with the surroundings of a metropolitan area, giving the cities an individual cultural touch, you get to thinking about how many cities were actually growing faster as a whole. From the 50 cities on our list, only 14 of the had grown faster as a whole than their surrounding areas.
