Agent Spotlight: Mel Martell
About Mel Martell
Hi, my name is Mel Martell and I'm a real estate agent with Spyglass Realty.
I'm originally from Abilene, Texas. I've lived in the Austin area since 2005 and prior to real estate, I worked in a couple of different industries. I have been a hairdresser since 2006 and was also a fitness instructor as well so I love the people industries, obviously, and it was a nice natural transition into real estate. I originally looked into real estate because my husband is an architect and general contractor. When I started digging a little bit deeper, I realized I had a passion for Austin and for the different neighborhoods and what it has to offer.
My onboarding at Spyglass was a pretty intense six-week program. Throughout those six weeks, we learned the ins and outs of connecting with people, actively making sales of understanding real estate better and that really started to get me thinking about all the different directions I could go in the industry and really started igniting the passion. Coming out of the class, I really felt energized. Spyglass has a great way of building its agents up and really supporting us. I learned more than I ever thought it would in six weeks and have been able to get into deals pretty quickly because of that knowledge and information.
I think my most noteworthy moment so far was connecting with my first buyer because he lived in my hometown.
I think that it really showed me that finding that one little thing, that connecting point, that thing that you have in common with someone is key to making a connection. Not even just making a sale, but just connecting with a person.
I have a million favorite things about Austin, but if I had to choose just one, it would be Barton Springs Pool, I think it is the most magical place. I've never seen anything quite like it and during the summer, I'm there at least five times a week.
I think Austin is a great place to live. For people coming from other larger cities, I think Austin has a lot more to offer in the way of nature and just activities in general. There's something going on every weekend that you don't even have to pay for most of the time. We have the greatest farmer's markets, we have the greatest festivals. And then we have the hike and bike trails that go all throughout the city. And then, of course, Barton Springs.
My focus for 2020 is growing my business.
Really working on reaching out, making more connections, meeting new people and focusing a lot in my own neighborhood. I love where I live. I live in Central East Austin and there's a lot of potential in that area, especially with the redevelopment of 183. Getting out of my box at the same time, meeting my neighbors and being more involved in the community.
