Most of the neighborhood’s growth occurred in the 1920s and 30s. Lots tend to be smaller and contain bungalows, many of which have been renovated. And as with most burgeoning neighborhoods, there is also a construction boom resulting in more modern-looking homes.

There are more than 2,700 households and 5,700 residents in the area, which includes Auditorium Shores, the Long Center for the Performing Arts, and the Lester E. Palmer Community Events Center. Residents can walk or bicycle among tall oak trees to the Barton Creek Greenbelt, the hike-and-bike trail to Town Lake, Barton Springs and Zilker Park. Despite being just south of downtown Austin, Bouldin Creek remains a quiet,  safe residential neighborhood.

Boundaries

The Bouldin Creek neighborhood in near south Austin is bounded by Town Lake and downtown Austin on the north; Oltorf Street on the south; South Congress Avenue to the east; and the Union Pacific railroad tracks near South Lamar Boulevard to the west.

There are also activities within the neighboring boundaries that you can visit. Take a dip in the Barton Springs Pool, jog around Zilker Park, bring your family or friends for a challenge in The Escape Game Austin which is located in Downtown. Stroll along the Town Lake Metropolitan Park where you can also skate, bike, and hike. Kayaks and canoes are also available in the area.

 

Things To Do in Bouldin Creek

This neighborhood is one of the best locations for people that love the walkability and convenience of downtown Austin but want to live in a home. The restaurants that make up this area include Bouldin Creek Cafe, Fresa’s Chicken, Sway, Lenoir and Elizabeth Street Cafe. And if that’s not enough, you’re adjacent to the South Congress (SoCo) entertainment district to the east and the South Lamar (SoLa) entertainment district to the west, both of which offer a wide assortment of funky stores, cafes, coffee shops, and restaurants. To the north is Riverside and downtown Austin, which provide more music, dining, and nightlife.

From the standpoint of being walkable, this is one of the best Austin neighborhoods and many urbanists believe it is the pinnacle of Austin living.

And when the past and future merge in an area like Bouldin Creek, you get restaurants like the newly renovated Mattie’s at Green Pastures, where residents can eat in the boyhood home of famous Austin activist John Henry Faulk that was built in 1894. Another unique dining experience is the Soup Peddler, which was founded by a former high-tech worker, who traded in his cubicle for a bicycle and a wheeled cooler to offer delivery of soups and entrees.

Bouldin Creek is a quirky, hip, and unique neighborhood known for its major festivals such as the SXSW and being the cultural center of South Austin. Bouldin Creek Schools

Becker Elementary and Travis Heights Elementary (PK-5) both provide dual-language programs. Fulmore Middle School (6-8) and William B. Travis High School (9-12) also serve the community. The neighborhood’s largest institutional resident is the 65-acre Texas School for the Deaf. As with all neighborhoods served by AISD, there are other magnet school options for residents.
